Quick Overview

"What I love about Albarino is it consistently embodies everything I like in a white wine - great nose, good body, a bit of minerality, and a pleasant hint of fruit - and La Cana's is no exception.

From the Winemaker

The grapes for this wine come from 11.5 Ha of vineyards (5.2 Ha are estate owned and 6.3 Ha are owned by local growers) divided amongst 12 parcels located in Sisan Ribadumia in the Salnes Valley, the most northern part of the Rias Baixas very near the Atlantic ocean.
Offering lush aromas of white peaches and rip pears followed by flavors of pineapple and bright citrus the wine finishes on a crisp dry note.

Critical Commentary

91 Points - International Wine Cellar "Greenish gold. Pungent aromas of citrus pith, beeswax and minerals, with a deeper note of pear skin coming out with air. Taut and spicy, with very good density and a distinct pungency to its flavors of candied citrus fruits, pear and lemon zest. A suggestion of licorice builds with air and carries through the broad, supple, energetic finish. "

90 Points - Wine Advocate
"Bodegas La Cana's 2010 Albarino was fermented in stainless steel (80%) and larger barrels (20%) and aged sur lie. Mineral, lemon zest, baking spices, and floral notes inform the nose of this round, smooth-textured, savory white. With excellent volume and length, this outstanding value will provide pleasure for another 3-4 years."

Evolution Says...

"What I love about Albarino is it consistently embodies everything I like in a white wine - great nose, good body, a bit of minerality, and a pleasant hint of fruit - and La Cana's is no exception.

Hailing from Spain, this wine has a nose of flower blossoms, fresh pears, and ripe peaches that is truly delightful. Medium bodied, this wine is soft on the palate with a silky texture and slight minerality that balances the fruit and subtle sweetness in the wine. It resolves to a crisp citrus finish that leaves you refreshed and wanting another sip. (I brought this to a party and was annoyed when I had to share.)

This is an ideal late spring or summertime wine perfect to accompany sandwiches, sushi, salads, or sunshine." (Diana Hawkins, The Rise of the Albarino)
