From the Winemaker
This wine has a dense purple ruby color with a mulberry hue. The aromas are both opulent and intense with blackcurrant, violets, rosemary and cedar playing a central role. The palate is awash with flavors of boysenberry, cassis, star anise and menthol. The structural tannins are supple and fine grained. Overall, the wine displays excellent line and length of flavor. An outstanding, youthful, fresh and vibrant Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon from a tenanious vintage.
90 Point - The Wine Advocate
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 The Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon presents intense cassis and blackberries aromas with hints of pencil shavings, cloves and bay leaf. Medium-full bodied, it has a medium level of grainy tannins, lively acidity and mouth-filling, very pure berry flavors, finishing long. Drink it now through 2016. "
90 Points - Australian Wine Companion
"Although there are contradictory statements in the technical background to the wine, it seems this is a Coonawarra/Clare Valley blend (not 100% Coonawarra) that produces a truly enjoyable, delicious red berry and cassis-fruited wine, the tannins and oak on the boundary. Drink whenever you wish."
Evolution Says...
The Cover Drive is one of the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon to come from Australia in a long time. This is highly approachable, velvety texture, and drinks like a fine Napa Cab at half the price.
